Ferrari unveils the new 488 GTB Spider
Ferrari has officially unveiled the most powerful convertible model it’s ever produced, the new 488 GTB Spider supercar and probably the nicest looking convertible from Maranello.
Even if it is released only in autumn at International Motor Show in Frankfurt, we are lucky that there are pre-launched presentation sesions, how is this one, where we find out something about the car.
The new Spider model is an evolved version of the old 458 and according to the manufacturer, the new Ferrari has the highest aerodynamic efficiency so far which means only one thing…it’s fast!
Because of a new aluminium spaceframe, the 488 Spider’s torsional rigidity has also been increased by 23% over its predecessor and with a 3.9-litre turbocharged V8 engine puts out 493kW (660 HP) of power and 740Nm of torque will take the car from 0-100 km/h in 3.2 seconds with a top speed of over 320 km/h. Again…super fast!
The 488 Spider is very similar to the GTB, meaning it features an eight-speed with twin-clutch paddle-shift gearbox, also included Variable Torque Management, a system which is designed to ensure the engine’s massive torque is released smoothly.
Ferrari’s Side Slip Control 2 system is also fitted to improve acceleration out of corners and make the car more stable during high-speed manoeuvres.
Price for the new Ferrari 488 Spider won’t be confirmed until the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
